This is the view of our morning walk today, we had a bit of a snowstorm last night, it never usually lasts long in our part of the world, and it is nice and sunny today.

It is funny, this is Gus's fourth year winter and he still doesn't really know what to do with it. He sniffs it like crazy and eats it but he doesn't enjoy it the way Indy does.

There was a dog barking in the distance so they were trying to find it, and of course neither will pose nicely for me with out a cookie.. and sadly there were no cookies on our morning walk.

Late Halloween Post

well she never is really.

Gus just wanted the candy I was handing out, he was very nosy with the poor trick'er treaters,

I had to let him come to the door with me so he wouldn't bark

My roommate has a pitbull puppy named Delilah and she and Gus love to play in the backyard.

I'm not sure if she is pure pitbull because she plays like a baby moose, all awkard arms and legs.

Indy isn't quite crazy about her yet, she tolerates Delilah but

won't put up with her attempts to play.

But these two love to race and wrestle in the backyard while Indy stays inside with me
And it works out well for everyone!

Guard Puppies

Now that we are finally getting our summer weather, I have been leaving the front door open to get some air circulation in our ~~oven~~ house. But since we live on a street where have a lot of foot traffic, it means Gus is on high alert!

He has been barking at everything: people, cars, birds, squirrels, other

dogs and, I am sure the wind.

Indy usually sits in the living room window but I guess she figured she could get in on the action on the landing too.

When it comes to the keys, Indy doesn't like to share, it doesn't matter if she is only chewing one of the two sets she is sitting on or in this case, isn't even chewing on them. She growls at Gus if he comes near her.

I kind of feel bad for him because all he wants to do is sit on the blanket with her so he can chew his keys but she isn't having any of that!

She has staked her claim and is not moving!

So Gus gave up and collapsed on the couch.

And all is right in Indy's little world, the keys? Hers.

The blanket? Hers as well

This picture just made me laugh, sorry for the poor quality but that is Gus's tongue beside the yellow key. He wasn't panting, he was just laying there with his tongue hanging out!

This weekend we finally had a real weekend of hot summer weather, the kind of weather that everyone else in North America has been getting but us...

Which while it sucks for the beach goers, it doesn't suck that badly for the pugs. Well until the other day.

I am not sure while Indy has her head under the pillow but she did it on purpose! Gus however is enjoying the fan in the corner (off screen).

When Good Vaccines go Bad

Last Friday Gus was due to have his Rabies booster and it turned out after going through his vet history, he also needed pretty much every other vaccine known to man. So part of this poor guy's crappy day is my fault. :(

On our return ride home from Gus's appointment, he decided that he didn't want to digest his kibble anymore and all I can say is I am very happy I keep blankets on the back seat.
After we had been home for a few hours though, he started scratching at his face and then I noticed that poor Gus was very swollen!

Back to the vet we went for a nice calming shot of steroids which seemed to help but Gus was pretty itchy and uncomfortable for most of the night. He has bounced back to his normal crazy pug self but next time vaccines are due.. we are popping Benydral and spreading them out!

Our Morning Walk is Still Frosty

We have started a nice new walking routine, it involves walking up a hill and through a field with a path. It has lots of fun spots to sniff and explore.As you can see, Gus's tail has gone back to normal, thankfully. I did spend quite some time on google but everything they came up with just didn't match as he had no symptoms or recent injuries.

Indy is not impressed in this picture, since Gus kept stepping on her leash and tugging at it.

So I had to make him sit still, so poor Indy could finish her bathroom break!

Usually Gus's tail is always up, he has a beautiful double curl, and the only time it is down is when he is intent on chewing on his keys. When he does notice he has a tail, Gus likes to to chase it! He is kind of silly like that.
Right now though, it doesn't seem to hurt him, every now and then he does have it curled up but for the most part it is down. We don't remember him hurting it at all and sorry Pearl, treats don't seem to make a difference.

These guys were pretty spoiled this year. A new bed, lots of new toys,

and of course treaties that were gobbled up.

Gus also received this really cute hoody,

which he seems to be ambivalent about.

He likes the sweater better then the hood I think.

Indy just flat out hates Gus's sweater and wonders why she is being raised

in a home filled with cruel people.

Behind the Scenes Drama

This time around for pictures wasn't easy. The models just weren't feeling the inspiration, no matter how many treaties were handed out!

As pictured above during an outtake, Gus and Indy are showing their disdain with their current photographer who pretty much threw her hands up and decided to go with the best of the worst photo wise.

We have been kenneling Gus and Indy since March and I have to say it has been going very well. We ask them to go to their houses for a cookie and they are off like a shot. Of course it all has to do with that magic 'c' word... cookie!

Here they are waiting for their cookie before I head off to work. In the new house, the kennel's are in the basement which has been a lot better for us as well, they don't hear every move we make and we don't hear theirs.

We have only come across one problem though, last week Gus went downstairs and took a poo in his kennel and covered it with his blankets! Sometimes he makes me shake my head.

Gus has an obsession with anything to do with my robes.

He loves to chew on the ties as well as the actual robes.
One time in tossing the tie around, he actually got it looped through his tail.

I think we only spent about 10 minutes laughing hysterically as he twirled around

the living room trying to grab the robe tie.

But in true pug form, Gus is so stubborn that he does not stop!

Well he doesn't stop until he has good hold on it!

This little dog has no common sense what so ever. She jumped on a skunk. JUMPED. Several times. In fact she had him pinned right against the fence that when he sprayed, he couldn't get his tail up.

How do I know? I got to watch it and try desperately to get Indy back in the house.

She proudly came running back and about 30 seconds later I realized that she was going to need her own Listerine bath. In fact she needed two baths since she was completely sprayed. Silly girl.

So while we were on our little hiatus, we managed to meet some new friends. Little black and white fluffy skunks.
Gus was sprayed for the first time at the old house, right on his tail. And let me tell you, anything tomato does nothing for that smell. But according to google, mouth wash works well and yes yes it does.
Gus enjoyed his red bath since it tasted so yummy.
All those spots of ketchup and tomato paste was a good little snack.
And sadly this isn't our first run in with the a skunk.

I am so sorry, it has been over a month and no posts! We have been super busy here, we moved and that was a long stretched out ordeal but Gus and Indy love the new place.

However we were lacking internet for quite awhile.

I have been off work for pretty much the same amount of time, a minor car accident that messed my back up.

As well, I can't find our card reader! Which is a shame since I have so many pictures and stories to tell.

I really have been a horrible blogger these last few weeks. I forgot the princess's birthday!! On June 30th, Indy turned 5 years old. It is hard to believe we have had Indy for that long, it feels like yesterday we got her.

This last week has been nothing but rain for our early morning walks. Which involves putting on jackets and rain boots and puggy rain jackets.

The one thing this princess hates the most is her pink rain jacket. When I first bought it years ago, she flat out refused to do her business while wearing it. Now... she refuses to move if one of the velcro straps comes undone. These are the beginning of the walk pictures, tail tucked in, head still kind dry.

These are the after shots, when you shake 6 times while walking past only 4 houses; then the tail pops out, and it is one more thing to dry!

Plus these two tend to look like drowned cats when they get their heads wet! You can see how wet Gus's horse blanket is in this picture, these early morning rain storms suck!

When we get back to the house, jackets come off, feet/tails/heads are all dried before we go in or else they leave wet prints on the couches!

Poor Indy, her jacket always sits crooked on her, I think it is time for a new one.

This is Puppy, Indy's first toy, we bought him the same day we took Indy home. It's funny to remember at the time that he was bigger then she was!

Poor Puppy, over the years he has had a few minor and major repairs. He has lost both his eyes and his nose. Currently he is a bit of a mess plus his tail is starting to fall off!

Here he is, good as new! Thankfully his squeaker still works too.

The house we rented

I went to Seaside, Oregon last week for a mini get away with some friends. Unfortunately the dogs couldn't come with but they stayed home with their daddy.
HayStack Rock

The weather was pretty good the whole time I was there, rained a few times but the days we went to the beach were nice ones.
On a rainy day we went to Lincoln City to do some shopping but we of course had to hit Tillamook Cheese Factory!
The tour has changed a bit since I was last there but the cheese is just as amazing as ever.
I had a great week away but I was happy to come back.

Just before I went away last week, we had a huge windstorm that came up out of now where. It woke me up in the middle of the night and the next morning I saw why. We lost our back fence!
Gus and Indy can't go out there very much right now since they refuse to stay on our side of the yard but hopefully we will be able to get it back up soon.

We had this really cute pink harness that Indy used to wear but it didn't really fit her right. Apparently her body is too wide and short for it too look comfortable

Chicken Wing Thursday

Even though Gus out weighs Indy by at least 15 lbs, she goes full out during wrestling matches.
If you enlarge on the photos, you will see Indy has a firm grip on Gus's cheek, his ear and I think his neck. I have picked him up to find her hanging off him, literally. She wasn't touching the floor!
Gus used to take it and let her do whatever when we first got him. She would leap and pounce and bark at him and he would just lay there.
Well not anymore. Voila! The chicken wing!

Personally I hate this manuever because of Indy's knee problem but it doesn't usually last long before she is chewing on his face again.

One thing I have noticed with all my animals is that they like to sit in awkward looking positions.
His little leg is all folded over and Gus sat like this for a good twenty minutes.

Bed Time Issues

Crate training so far has been very well except for this last week. Indy has been having a difference of opinions with me on where she should be sleeping. I think she should sleep in her crate or even in Gus's crate with him at night.
Indy thinks she should be sleeping on the couch and when I go and get her she growls at me. Last night she actually snapped at me! I am not really sure what I should do about this behavior because when she sleeps on the couch I always wake up to some sort of accident on the floor. Any advice would be wonderful!

Why do you look so sad? Is it because we have to stick you two in a kennel when no one is at home? And at night time?

New Keys

Indy and Gus LOVE their keys, it is one of the first things they grab in the morning or every time we get home. Every now and then, they need to be trashed since they get gross or chewed right down.

Shane has a friend in Houston (Hi Ange!!) who very sweetly sent us these keys in exchange for a Team Canada shirt because of course Canada Rules! haha

Charlotte's mom was telling me how she had a harness for her but it didn't really fit well so I gave Charlotte Indy's harness that she never wears.

Agility

My sister takes agility with my mom's toy poodle and their group was performing at the Surrey Pavilion during the olympics.
She told me I needed to come for their second show because there was pugs!
Some of you might have seen the link on ODP's page about Biff, well he was there as well as his brothers Nacho and we can't remember the 3rd name, sorry!
They were pretty quick and Biff especially like to talk when he was jumping.
It was a lot of fun and it makes me really want to sign Gus up for it!

Gus got right into the hockey game and was more then thrilled when Canada won gold.
Indy.. well, Indy doesn't like the beer that made this scarf so she wasn't too thrilled about wearing it.
Or the fact that the game was interrupting her nap time.

We are all about the Olympics in the house and in fact our city is an official Venue City - they are having concerts and parades and The Musical Ride are here which is very cool! We plan on going to Vancouver tomorrow to check out all the cool pavilions that each country has set up.
Gus is all in for the Olympics but Indy.... well she has her doubts..

***The previous post was their water bowl, the silver bowls are food. They can't share food because Indy eats 2 or 3 kibbles at a time while Gus doesn't chew!

Gus has had himself some fun this weekend. It turns out he can fit through the little window the cats go through to get to their food and litter box where we keep the giant bag of dog food that is no longer that big.
And he has been doing it at night when we are in bed. Then we wake up to Gus's reaction of chowing down until he can chow no longer and it isn't pretty. Since we don't know how to stop this behaviour and other destructive daytime activities Gus enjoys, we figure it is high time to crate them.
We are calling them their houses and so far for quick day trips this weekend Gus and Indy don't mind it. They get two toys and a nice pillow and blanket plus we made sure Gus will fit into this one (unlike the old one he was using that Indy has now).

So I am hoping it will curb the destructiveness and binge eating going here. Wish luck in our crate training.

We don't have big plans.. maybe take a walk or two and watch some movies.
Just hang around.

Thanks again for all the well wishes, we had to send in another sample of Gus's urine to confirm (or deny) that he has a UTI. We should find out Monday.. :)

The good news is Gus isn't diabetic but he may have a UTI. I will have to go get him some antibiotics as well as drop off an urine sample just to make sure.

Water Water Everywhere

About a month or so Gus started peeing inside the house at least once a day, on paper thankfully. I thought maybe he wasn't going when I took them outside but he was and he was peeing a lot!

I did a little research and came up with canine diabetes, he doesn't have all the symptoms but excessive drinking and urinating are one of them. Plus with the amount of crap he has eaten (a dozen sugar cookies for example) he could probably give Pearl a run for her money as well as damage something. Also according to the vet, he lost 8 lbs!!! We double checked him at home and we came up with 3 lbs so I am not quite sure about that.
Gus had blood work and his urine tested today and he was a really good boy at the vet and we will find out tomorrow what is going on. So keep your fingers crossed for us and I will update when I find out.

Meet Charlotte!

This is Charlotte, she is our roommate's brother's new puppy and she is only 3 months old!
I want her, compared to Gus Charlotte is tiny and compare to Indy, Charlotte is very thin!
She got along really well with Indy and Gus, Gus was a bit too rough with her, he thinks he is a little dog but they raced around the house and played.
Charlotte fell in love with my slippers, the poor monkey's nose didn't stand a chance!

The Lamby Story

Last year some time I went to Bath and Body Works and scored one of their little lambs, when I got home Gus snatched him right out of the bag. Well the little lamby is pretty nasty now, even after a few baths! But Gus just loves him, carries him around by a back leg.

Hubby went on a road trip to Oregon last week and found a B&BW outlet that had some brand new lambies and they are so soft and pretty. It's almost a shame to give them to Gus and Indy but how could I not?

We have this awesome path behind the school near our house, it is a complete shock to be in this little wilderness in the middle of a subdivision.
I like it as a get away, Gus and Indy love it as something different to explore.
There is one giant rock overlooking the creek and I thought i could pose them on there but they weren't very cooperative!
Gus wouldn't look at me and Indy... well Indy took it as a good time to attack Gus!

Gus likes to bark at me when he feels I am not moving quickly enough for him to either get fed or go outside. Last night was about going out to pee... please ignore my rooroo's, usually they work on making him bark louder!

And yes.. the tree is down.. but not put away!

The yawn/bark is something he does constantly.. they all sound different, usually he goes into a full roo when he does that!

We had just finished our big breakfast when my mom pulled a flea out of her hair. I had Indy on my lap at that point so I did a quick check to realize she was completely infested with fleas. Completely.

Mom lest us borrow her bottle of flea shampoo, so we drove home for baths and de-flea-ing.
Indy and Gus got scrubbed and lathered all up while we vacuumed the furniture and floors and washed all the bedding, toys and blankets.
The hubby went looking for flea meds at the only open store on Christmas Day but, they didn't have anything.
Once everything had been cleaned, we took a breather before heading back out for more Christmas fun! I can tell you, I don't think we will forget this Christmas any time soon.
